Item Description
A rare and important sofa, designed by Finn Juhl in 1951 for Baker Furniture Company, Michigan. Introduced to the American design community by Edgar Kaufmann Jr, an art collector and director of the Industrial Design Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Finn Juhl got in contact with Mr. Hollis Baker in 1949 and thereafter started his collaboration with Baker Furniture. This is one of the first Baker sofa’s made by One Collection in Denmark, now known as House of Finn Juhl. House of Finn Juhl is the licensed manufacturer of the designs of Finn Juhl. This sofa features a teak frame and a beautiful original fabric. Teak was the preferred choice for Finn Juhl, but is no longer available for the Baker sofa because the high quality teak needed for the frame is no longer harvested. Marked with a signature and a label as pictured.
