Gabriele Mucchi (1899–2002) was an Italian painter, architect, and illustrator associated with the Corrente movement and social realism. Born in Turin, he initially studied engineering but later turned to art, developing a style that blended expressionism, realism, and modernism. He lived in Berlin in the 1920s, where he was influenced by New Objectivity, before returning to Italy. His works often depicted social struggles and urban life, notably in his famous painting La Martesana. Mucchi was also an architect, contributing to post-war reconstruction projects, including Milan’s QT8 experimental neighborhood. His politically engaged art reflected his anti-fascist ideals. His long career spanned multiple artistic movements, making him a significant figure in 20th-century Italian art.
