Item Description

Iconic Landi aluminium stacking chair, originally designed by Hans Coray for the Swiss National Exhibition in Zurich (1938) and executed in the 1950s by P. & W. Blattmann Metallwarenfabrik Wädenswil (MEWA), Switzerland. Celebrated as a landmark of Swiss modernist industrial design, the Landi chair is distinguished by its lightweight aluminium construction and perforated seat and backrest, combining structural efficiency with visual elegance. These early examples feature 91 perforation holes, a key production detail that dates their manufacture to pre-1960, making them particularly desirable to collectors. In addition, the original rubber feet are still present, a detail that is rarely preserved on early Landi chairs and further enhances their authenticity. Each chair is marked “MEWA” on the back, as shown in the photographs. The chairs remain highly functional and stackable, embodying the timeless practicality and refined engineering that made the Landi chair an enduring design classic.
