Item Description

A rare and highly collectible matching set of four St. Catherine College Chairs, designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen, Denmark, in 1978. Originally created exclusively for St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, these chairs were part of Jacobsen’s comprehensive architectural and interior design program for the college. As they were never intended for general retail production, examples are exceptionally scarce on the market, particularly in a complete matching set. This set retains its original upholstery, which remains in good vintage condition, adding authenticity and historical integrity to the chairs. The elegant, minimalist form is characteristic of Jacobsen’s refined modernist vocabulary—clean lines, balanced proportions, and exceptional craftsmanship. Each chair is marked with the original Fritz Hansen label (1978). A rare opportunity to acquire an important piece of Danish modern design history with a direct connection to one of Jacobsen’s architectural commissions.
