Item Description

A beautiful and exceptionally rare toy house by Claudy Jongstra, created around the year 2000. This one-of-a-kind work is an early example from the career of the renowned Dutch artist and designer, known internationally for her distinctive use of natural wool, felt and sustainable materials. The house is constructed from cardboard clad in felt, transforming a simple and familiar object into a tactile, sculptural piece. The combination of the architectural form and Jongstra’s characteristic use of felt gives the work a warm, almost landscape-like quality, while retaining a playful and highly imaginative character. This one-off piece was specially designed and handmade for an interior design fair in the Netherlands in 2000. As such, it represents a fascinating moment in Jongstra’s early practice, before her work became internationally recognized for its exploration of natural materials, traditional craftsmanship and ecological principles. The piece is marked with its original label. A rare opportunity to acquire a very early work by Claudy Jongstra, with documented exhibition context and a unique combination of design, craft and contemporary art. Particularly appealing to collectors of Dutch design, contemporary craft and Jongstra’s work.
