Item Description
Rare large early Louvre pendants designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1962. An important example of Henningsen’s celebrated approach to sculptural, glare-free lighting, the Louvre is distinguished by its dramatic tiered form and elegant architectural presence. These early examples are particularly desirable for their scale, proportions, and period character. The layered construction creates a beautifully diffused light while giving the fixture a striking sculptural quality, whether illuminated or viewed as an object. Both pendants have been newly wired and are fitted with new fabric-covered electrical wire of distinctly superior quality, supplied by the original manufacturer, Louis Poulsen. Each pendant also comes with a new original Louis Poulsen canopy. The funnel-shaped canopy is an important and often overlooked element of the Louvre’s original design, and is generally missing from vintage examples. Its inclusion completes the intended visual profile of the fixture and adds to the authenticity and presentation of these pendants. Please also note that each pendant hangs from its original reinforced Louis Poulsen suspension wire. Two pendants are available and may be purchased individually. Their generous scale makes them particularly well suited to dining rooms, entrance halls, living spaces, commercial interiors, and other settings where an important piece of Danish lighting can serve as a strong architectural focal point. A rare opportunity to acquire an early 1962 Poul Henningsen Louvre pendant by Louis Poulsen, professionally rewired and presented with original-manufacturer components. Price is for one pendant.
