Saporiti Italia “Voyager” Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Gaby Fois Dorell

Item Description

A wonderfully sculptural and rare design: the “Voyager” lounge chair and matching footstool, designed by artist Gaby Fois Dorell for Saporiti Italia. Both pieces are clearly labeled to the base of the seat with the original “Saporiti Italia” manufacturer’s tag. The dramatic swept form is built from a single continuous sheet of bent birch plywood, curving up from a low, ground-hugging seat into a tall, gently arcing backrest — a bold, almost architectural silhouette that immediately reads as sculpture as much as seating. Both the chair and its accompanying footstool are raised on splayed, blade-like brushed stainless steel bases, lending a sense of lightness and movement that contrasts beautifully with the solidity of the wood shell. The design’s signature feature is its upholstery: rather than a conventional cushion, the seat and backrest are fitted with a grid of individual pyramid-shaped burgundy gel pads, each rising to a soft peak. The effect is tactile and graphic all at once, giving the piece an almost quilted, three-dimensional texture that catches the light differently from every angle. The matching ottoman repeats the same grid of pyramid cushions atop its plywood platform. This is a genuinely uncommon design — far scarcer to the market than better-known Italian lounge chairs of the era — and a striking statement piece for a collector’s eye or a considered interior. The chair and ottoman are offered together as a set.
