Elegant drop front desk secretary in cherry, designed in the 1950’s by a well known Dutch architect. This piece is designed in the the Hague School style, a movement that emphasized geometric shapes, simple proportions and constructivist decorations. A minimalist but very complex design that demands excellent craftsmanship. The top glass door drops down to access a red display space. The desk folds down with a complex but very sturdy mechanism, at a height of 76 cm.
The previous owners commissioned the architect to design their villa and interior in the late 1950s. Their country house was located in the woods near the Dutch Royal Estate. The furniture was custom made by furniture makers from ‘t Woonhuys in Amsterdam. The key is marked “t Woonhuys on one side and Amsterdam on the reverse. Excellent craftsmanship and loving care made sure that this piece is still in outstanding original condition.
