It has become part of the permanent design collections of world renowned museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was an Italian architect and designer, renowned for his influential contributions to the Memphis Group—a design movement that emerged in the 1980s. Sottsass, a visionary and provocateur, challenged conventional aesthetics with vibrant colors, bold patterns, and unconventional forms. His iconic works, such as the Carlton Room Divider and the Casablanca sideboard, epitomize his rebellious spirit and rejection of design norms. Beyond furniture, Sottsass left an indelible mark on architecture, collaborating on projects like the iconic Olivetti Synthesis building.
