A bold, architectural pendant from the “Nippon” series, designed by Simon Henningsen for Danish manufacturer Lyfa. Constructed from folded sheet metal in a striking palette of black, red, and white lacquer, the fixture is built from two offset, open-sided rectangular volumes that slide past one another, creating a dynamic, sculptural silhouette with a distinctly Japanese-influenced sense of asymmetry — a nod reflected in the model’s name. The white lacquered interior diffuses the light source into a warm, glowing band that escapes through the open seam between the two shade sections, while the black and red exterior panels create sharp, graphic contrast. As with much of Henningsen’s work for Lyfa, the design plays with geometry and negative space rather than relying on a conventional diffused shade, giving the fixture a striking presence whether lit or unlit, and a different visual read depending on the viewing angle. A confident example of 1970s Danish lighting design at its most architectural, well suited to a dining table, entryway, or as a sculptural statement piece in a contemporary interior.
