A rare and highly distinctive Nidone armchair, designed by Giulietto Cacciari and produced by Studio Simon, Italy, in 1974. The chair features a generously padded and upholstered seat and backrest, set upon a sculptural enameled steel base inspired by an oil barrel. The bold industrial base contrasts beautifully with the soft, enveloping upholstery, creating the characteristic tension between industrial materials and inviting comfort found in Italian design of the period. The Nidone is an expressive example of the experimental spirit of Studio Simon, associated with Dino Gavina and some of the most innovative Italian furniture design of the 1960s and 1970s. Its unusual proportions and distinctive base make it both a functional lounge chair and a sculptural presence within an interior. The chair is marked underneath the seat, confirming its provenance and production by Studio Simon.
