Item Description
This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a complete set of four “Champagne” dining chairs by the celebrated Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek. A defining example of the designer’s philosophy of craftsmanship, sustainability, and material honesty, these chairs represent the very essence of what has made Piet Hein Eek one of the most influential voices in contemporary design. Piet Hein Eek (b. 1967) emerged as a provocateur in the 1990s, challenging the design establishment with work that celebrated imperfection, embraced scrap materials, and elevated the handmade over the industrially perfect. His 1990 graduation project—a cabinet made from scrap wood—became an instant manifesto for a new way of thinking about design. Today, his work is held in the permanent collections of museums including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The “Champagne” chair—so named for its warm, golden-hued finish and fabric—embodies Eek’s philosophy of “doing what you want to do.” Designed and made especially for a champagne bar in Amsterdam, the chairs are no longer in production, making a complete set of four a very rare find on the market. Four chairs available, offered individually.
