A Masterpiece of Brutalist Poetry – Pierre Chapo, c. 1960 There are few names that command the same quiet reverence as Pierre Chapo. His work doesn’t simply furnish a room—it anchors it. This circa-1960 solid elm daybed (model “T22”) is a rare, unaltered expression of his modernist, anti-trend philosophy: honest materials, exposed joinery, and a deep respect for the grain. The frame is hewn from French solid elm, aged to a rich, honeyed patina that only decades can bestow. You’ll feel the heft of Chapo’s signature round legs, the satisfying geometry of the slatted back, and the almost architectural precision of the mortise-and-tenon construction. No veneer. No compromise. What makes this particular piece exceptional is the newly commissioned upholstery. We’ve fitted the daybed with a Bleu Marcoule wool mattress—a deep, mineral blue that recalls the Côte d’Azur at dusk. The wool is dense, breathable, and naturally resilient. Paired with it is a matching down-filled headrest, soft as a cloud yet tailored enough to honor Chapo’s clean lines. Use it as a meditation lounge by day, a guest bed by night, or the ultimate spot for a Sunday nap in a sun-drenched loft. It works equally well against white plaster, raw concrete, or warm oak. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Frame shows light, character-appropriate wear (no cracks or repairs). New upholstery in premium Bleu Marcoule wool—never slept on. Shipping and white-glove delivery available.
