Captivated by the potential of plastic, Danish designer Verner Panton created the first single-form injection-molded chair. The chair was originally made by Vitra with Baydur HR cold-molded, fiberglass reinforced polyester resin foam which would then be primed and painted. This glossy chair in grey was produced by Vitra in 1997 and bears Panton’s signature on the base and is in wonderful vintage condition. Marked with Vitra label at the seat bottom.
Verner Panton was a Danish architect and designer, known for his contributions to the field of furniture design and interior architecture. He was born in Gamtofte, Denmark in 1926 and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After completing his studies, he worked for several design firms in Denmark before opening his own design studio in 1955.
Panton was known for his innovative and futuristic designs, which often featured bold colors, sweeping curves and unconventional shapes. He was particularly interested in creating furniture and interiors that were flexible and adaptable to changing needs, and his designs often incorporated new materials and technologies. He was one of the first designers to create furniture made entirely out of plastic and his designs were known for their playful and imaginative nature.
