Item Description
Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova ‘Saratoga’ living room set, black lacquered wood and cognac leather, Italy, 1964. This set of two-seater sofa, three-seater sofa and sofa table named Saratoga is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli’s were known for their clear designs, all attention goes to the essential form and materials in this design. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in 20th century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.” This set has been in one Italian family from 1964 until recently, and is in amazing all original vintage condition.
