Item Description
Poltronova ‘Saratoga’ sofa, black lacquered wood and black leather, Italy, 1964. This two-seater sofa named Saratoga is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli’s were known for their clear designs, all attention goes to the essential form and materials in this design. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in 20th century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.” Literature: Gramigna, Giuliana. Repertorio del design Italiano 1950-2000 per L’Arredamento Domestico.
