Item Description

Reclinable Lotus lounge chair designed by Rob Parry for Gelderland. Rob Parry (The Hague, 1925-2023) was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His most important teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld at whose desk he worked. Rietveld’s desk also laid the foundations for his interest in exhibition design. In 1950 Rob Parry started his own agency. Rob Parry experimented with new materials and techniques in his designs. For example, he made a dining room chair from Perspex, grafted onto the shape of the human body (1947). His work was regularly featured in the Dutch entry for the Milan Triennale, where the PTT letterbox, from 1957, was awarded the silver prize. Designs by Rob Parry can be found in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Museum for Communication in The Hague and Stedelijk Museum ‘s-Hertogenbosch, among others.
