Item Description
Desirable early armchair model 57, designed by Niels Otto Møller for J.L Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark. Frame and back in teak, seat still upholstered with the original Naugahyde in nice vintage condition. Very elegant chair that would match wonderfully with a Scandinavian writing table by Finn Juhl, Hans Wegner or Arne Vodder. Niels O. Møller (1920-1982) completed his apprenticeship in cabinetmaking in 1939 and went to he Århus School of Design thereafter. In 1944, whilst just being 24 years old, he founded his own furniture production company: JL Møllers Møbelfabrik. At that time, the company was nothing more than a small workshop in Århus. Møller functions both as the head of design and lead the workshop. When demand for his furniture grew, he expanded his workshop. Important for Møller’s practice and design is the fact that all his designs were made in his own company. Even after his death, his products were solely made in JL Møllers Møbelfabrik that was at that time taken over by his two sons Jorgen Henrik and Jens Ole who still run the company up to this day.
