Thonet is a German furniture company founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet. The company is best known for its pioneering work in bentwood furniture design, which involved the use of steam to bend wood into curved shapes. Thonet’s most iconic design is the No. 14 chair, which was first produced in 1859 and has become one of the most widely produced chairs in history. Thonet’s innovative approach to furniture design helped pave the way for modernist design and the use of new materials and techniques in furniture production.
