Item Description

Exquisite set of 4 Charles Rennie Mackintosh “309 Ingram” dining chairs for Cassina in stained cherry and black leather. The 309 Ingram dining chairs, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in the early 20th century, exemplify his distinctive fusion of Art Nouveau and modernist principles. Created for the Ingram Street Tea Rooms in Glasgow, these chairs are known for their high, narrow backs, geometric lines, and minimalist elegance. Crafted from stained cherry with subtle decorative cut-outs, the 309 chairs reflect Mackintosh’s refined aesthetic and his interest in proportion, craftsmanship, and function. Their tall backs not only create visual drama but also offer a sense of enclosure and intimacy, aligning with his holistic approach to interior design. These chairs showcase Mackintosh’s mastery in transforming simple materials into artful, architectural forms. The original black leather upholstery is still in excellent vintage condition. Marked with signature and serial number underneath the base, made in 1996. Original numbered Cassina certificate also present for all 4 chairs.
