A rare and highly functional Model 663-2 modular storage cabinet, designed by Wim Rietveld for Gispen in 1954. Exemplifying the Dutch designer’s rational approach to modernism, this modular system combines industrial precision with clean architectural lines, making it as relevant today as when it was first introduced. The cabinet features a gray powder-coated steel frame with distinctive X-brace back supports, creating a light, open structure while providing excellent stability. The two-bay configuration offers multiple open shelves for display and storage, complemented by three white fall-front cabinet compartments. Each door is fitted with a simple circular cutout pull and opens to reveal vibrant red and yellow interiors, providing a striking contrast to the restrained exterior palette—a characteristic detail of mid-century Dutch industrial design. Designed with flexibility in mind, the modular construction makes the piece equally suited for use as a bookcase, office storage, display cabinet, or statement shelving in residential and commercial interiors. Presented in very good, all-original condition, the cabinet retains its original finish with only light wear consistent with age and use, preserving the authentic character and patina expected of an original Gispen piece from the 1950s.
