Item Description

A charming and highly collectible vintage therapeutic rhinoceros designed by Renate Müller and produced by H. Josef Leven KG, circa 1968. This distinctive animal is crafted from natural woven jute, with a contrasting blue textile saddle on its back. Its beautifully simplified, sculptural form, rounded feet, expressive silhouette and visible stitching give it the unmistakable tactile quality characteristic of Müller’s work. Renate Müller’s animal figures were conceived as therapeutic and sensory toys, encouraging children to explore different textures, shapes and weights through touch and movement. Today, these early pieces are appreciated not only for their educational and tactile qualities, but also as important examples of 20th-century German design and collectible vintage toys. The natural jute body, combined with the vivid blue saddle, creates a striking visual presence that works equally well as a collectible design object or as a sculptural accent in a contemporary interior. A particularly appealing early example of Renate Müller’s iconic animal designs, retaining its original character and charming vintage patina.
