An authentic Barcelona coffee table base, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and produced by Knoll Studio — one of the most iconic and enduring forms in modernist furniture design. The X-form base is executed in polished chrome-plated flat steel bar, its four legs crossing at a central point to create the sculptural, cantilevered silhouette that has made the Barcelona line a design icon since its debut at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. This example is stamped “Kroll Studio” along the leg, confirming its authentic production. The frame retains excellent overall chrome finish and presence; there is a small area of chrome loss at one joint, as pictured, which does not affect structural integrity. Please note: this listing is for the base only. The original glass top is no longer present. A new glass top can be ordered through us for an additional fee, though we generally recommend sourcing the glass locally once the base arrives — it’s both more economical and significantly safer to ship the frame alone rather than risk a large glass panel in transit. The glass size needed is 40″ square x .75″ thick.
